Disconnect the cable.
With the engine off, open up the carb to WOT (Wide Open Throttle, or take someone floor the gas pedal for you)
Adjust the cable so it is fully extended at WOT
Reconnect the cable

Past the book...

Printing the lock tab on the cablevision grommet. (D-shaped silvery metallic tab)

Slide cablevision housing toward firewall.

Release lock tab.

Push gas pedal to the floor. (make the floormat isn't bunched upwardly under the pedal)

Done.

The cable should be removed from the throttle linkage to visually verify that information technology isn't too tight or loose. Only pressing the button and opening the throttle without removing the cablevision can result in a slightly loose aligning because there is a little extra resistance in the cable right before it is fully extended. It only takes a few seconds longer to disconnect the terminate and do the job right.

WOW!!! It feels like a new automobile. I completely forgot how it feels for the tranny to drop down to 1st gear at 40mph in this old girl, what an eye-opener!!!

This is how I did it.

Mine has a tab you pull up, this releases the tension. I then pressed the gas to the floor one time, this did nothing, so I went under the hood, opened the throttle all the mode and then pushed the tab back downwards. It works perfectly. Wow, what a world of deviation. I can't remember the last time the tranny downshifted correctly, thank you guys.
